Three to See Edmonton Events: NO SHOW at SNAP, Ways in Waves and Pet Prowl on Whyte

NO SHOW: Saturday is your last chance to see this amazing group show from artist-run centre Society of Northern Alberta Print-artists with the aim of building community resilience.

“Exhibitions are called shows,” explains participating artist Justin Jenkins, “and the parallel between the concept of a No Show — not showing up, being missing — is a call to all of those who feel on the fringes of the art community.”

Also with work up in this exhibition: Ambar Azcorra, Calvin Becker Burns, Dawn Woolsey, Digital_Dirt, Dominik Royko, Lexi Pendzich, Luke Johnson, Morgan Pinnock and Richard Borowski.

Details: Noon – 5 p.m. Saturday at SNAP Gallery (10573 115 St.), by donation.

Gaza Fundraiser Concert: Brian Raine’s compassionate rock/art-pop/electronic project Ways in Waves and lovely local synth scientist Matthew Cardinal — who shot the cover of the last Gord Downie album — come together for this special show in support of Lina Wael and her family in Gaza, where some 39,000 have died since Israel’s invasion following Hamas’ attack.

Any amount of donation is accepted and appreciated, and Raine is premiering a new duo set with Murray Cameron Smith, should be a mesmerizing night of music for a superb cause.

Details: 8 p.m. doors at Magpie Books (9553 76 Ave.), by donation.

Pet Prowl on Whyte: The Old Strathcona Business Association brings back its annual Pet Prowl to raise awareness of 80-plus locations on Old Strathcona’s Pet-Friendly Business Map, meet adoptable pups from Zoe’s Animal Rescue and even snuggle with therapy dogs from the Pet Therapy Society of Northern Alberta.

Also, to help you feel good, special guest dog Falafel (she/her) will be in attendance!

“With so many patios and shops welcoming pets — especially dogs,” says OSBA’s executive director Cherie Klassen. “We thought it was time to highlight how easy it can be to bring your four-legged best friend along.”

There’s even a 2:30 p.m. fashion show and awards ceremony, see full details at oldstrathcona.ca.

Friendly pets, of course, very welcome.

Details: 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday at SouthBARK (10565 82 Ave.), no charge.
